of software for every need!
Joomla is secure and stable. Some rare major, as well as the usual minor issues are pretty quick fixed in the regular releases. The Joomla templates allow to keep up with the latest trends and fashions in webdesign.
One thing you may notice is that Joomla is changing. The development goes on, so some changes of of the names of functions is the consequence. But this will alow on the long run to create templates and components more efficiently.
So start using, trying and working with Joomla to get your own experience. Start with some existing templates, bu tlater you may develop your own themes.

Actually the reason for not improving this site in a quick way is related to some alternatives to Joomla which developed and which offers pretty easy CMS, depending on your needs
We now use razorcms for smaller websites. RazorCMS is an Open Source CMS which takes less than 1 MB in a pretty comfortable environment. It offers Content Mangement and some add-ons with Plugins called Blades. A good example of such a site is our website Foolcut Frisuren. You can embed pictures. By the way: No database is needed !
Still our preference here is phpwebsite, which is much more modern than Joomla as its been rewritten twice in its history from scratch. It fast, stable and safe. Just 2 examples to look at are Forum Haarausfall for the "older" version (< 1.0) and a Dermatology site which is running the newer "1"-series
The third strategic option is to make use of a WIKI. Especially when there are frequent changes and some more people involved it is quite an interesting alternative. With BOLTWIRE there is an easy to use system, which also allows a good control of content and layout as well. Also here just on example to show how it works: Wiki Haarausfall
In todays world there is not only one solution to choose a CMS. Depending on the expected needs (for example number of pages, involved peeople, required modules) it is often better to use a specific software instead a "one-for-all" like Joomla. It´s up to you ...
